The Zaragoza-Barcelona railway line will be doubled to boost freight traffic.

The Ministry of Transport awards the contract for the studies to double the 276 kilometres of track in Lérida. The axis with the highest freight traffic in the country will gain capacity in 2026 with the entry into service of ten new railway sidings.

The work will adapt the infrastructure to rail motorway standards, facilitating the passage of trains up to 750 metres long with semi-trailers. Work will be carried out on six tunnels, 16 overpasses and the catenary. This investment, which exceeds 60 million euros, responds to the need to increase the capacity of a currently saturated line, which concentrates more than 100 freight trains per direction each week. Its execution is backed by the European Union and forms part of the plan to decarbonise transport and boost intermodality in Spain.

A development that directly reinforces the position of Ponentia Logisticsconnected to this key axis and ready to be integrated into the new high-capacity rail transport flows.
