A large grain storage complex of 50,000 m² is planned at the La Litera Intermodal Logistics Platform in response to the strong growth in the consumption of cereals for animal feed throughout the Ebro Valley.
Ponentia Logistics announces the first implementation in the La Litera Intermodal Logistics Platform - Ponentia Logistics La Melusacurrently under construction: a new grain storage and distribution complex which will occupy about 50.000 m²and which will be operational by mid 2027.
Promoted by a group of agro-industrial entrepreneurs in the region, this new centre was created with a clear objective: to reinforce the logistics infrastructure of the primary sector and respond to the growing needs of an expanding industry, taking advantage of the direct rail connection with the Port of Tarragona as the main entry route for imported cereals.
In a context of strong demand for cereals and agricultural raw materials, both for animal feed and human consumption, the facility will enable supply up to 15,000 tonnes per weekThe new plant has become a nerve centre for the regular, safe and efficient supply in the provinces of Huesca, Lleida, Zaragoza and Tarragona.
In a first phase, the operation foresees two trains per dayThis will make it possible to replace the road transport of around 30,000 trucks per year and prevent the emission of approximately 4,350 tonnes of CO₂. This modal shift will not only significantly reduce the carbon footprint of freight transport, but will also contribute to decongesting roads and advancing the decarbonisation of the logistics sector.
The complex will be equipped with large capacity silos and an advanced management system that will integrate ventilation, thermal control and traceability technologiesThis ensures optimal grain preservation and compliance with the highest sanitary standards.
Located in the strategic environment of the Ponentia-La Melusa Logistics Platformwith a direct connection to the A-22 motorway and direct access to the Platform intermodal rail terminalThe new logistics centre will be equipped with direct rail access to the Port of TarragonaThe main entry point for imported cereal. This intermodal connection will enable faster, more competitive and sustainable distribution to the agro-industrial centres of the Ebro Valley.
In addition, the infrastructure is ready to be integrated into the future corridor of rail motorwaysThis is a mode of transport that will allow full lorries to be loaded onto trains to cover long distances in a faster, safer and more sustainable way. This connection will reinforce the competitiveness of the agro-industry of northeastern Spain, facilitating access to the main European markets and strengthening the role of "La Melusa" as a reference logistics node in intermodal transport.
This project is part of the ecosystem of logistics and energy services promoted by Ponentia Logistics in "La Melusa", consolidating La Litera as a one of the new key logistics hubs for agribusiness in north-eastern Spain.
