PONENTIA welcomes Adif's announcement of the launching of rail motorways in Spain

The Railway Infrastructure Administrator will boost the railway motorway between Zaragoza and Tarragona to promote intermodality, highlighting those of Tamarite de Litera with Irún and Portbou, which will be operated by PONENTIA together with Captrain.

Adif announced yesterday, in the hands of its president, María Luísa Domínguez, the tender scheduled for the first quarter of 2024 for the drafting of the necessary projects to promote a rail motorway on the Iberian gauge connection between Zaragoza and Tarragona, through Lleida, for more than 60 million euros. Within the framework of the inauguration of the conference 'Keys to the present and future of Railway Motorways', which PONENTIA attended, the president of the railway administrator analysed the main lines of action to give a 'decisive boost' to these infrastructures.

This is the section where the logistics and industrial platform and the PONENTIA railway terminal will be built, in the municipality of Tamarite de Litera, with work scheduled to start in January 2024. The railway terminal will be fully operational when Adif starts up this railway motorway line between Zaragoza and Tarragona via Lleida. More specifically, PONENTIA will operate together with Captrain the Tamarite de Litera - Irún and Tamarite de Litera - Portbou lines, which will link up with the main railway and port terminals in Europe.

The tender that will be put out to tender aims to adapt the gauges of 6 tunnels and 16 overpasses to the traffic generated by these services, as well as to improve the interoperability and performance of the Zaragoza-Tarragona line through Lleida, extending the sidings to a useful length of 750 metres in six stations.
